REMINDER: Regardless of weather, your graduation speech final draft is due on Friday, March 1st to turnitin.com and to class (printed copy). 1-2 pp. single spaced.

For those of you missing school due to school activities, I have posted the materials that are essential to get you started on your Op-Ed.

EVERYONE: Pick a current (preferably somewhat local) topic of concern to you that you can research and address to  politicians, the general public, and a stakeholder in your issue (such as a school board, medical community, a library, a business, a foundation or organization, a scholarship board, etc.). You need a topic by Monday at the latest.

Be sure to complete a pro/con chart for your issue (or for your solution to this issue) in your journals as you begin your research. You will need a minimum of 5 sources that you can justify as fully relevant to your topic. The chart should be done by Monday. The sources are due by the following Monday (electronically only).

Your Op-Ed should be aimed at a WAVERING audience. This essay, and the next two letters (all due 3-15) must be on the SAME TOPIC. Choose wisely. This means you have only one thing to research, but you must consider multiple angles and which parts of the research to include. The papers should vary in content, as well as in audience for a full grade.

We have Mrs. Beazizo, the librarian, coming in to discuss possible obstacles to your research, so we will have limited time to work in class on Friday. I expect that everyone uses the materials posted for March 1st to be fully informed, especially since we lost two days of instructional time this week.
