(10 min) Have students pull out their full rough drafts of
their essay—they should have 4-5 pages. Confirm the number of pages with EACH
student and record the # on the attached roster, going down the rows. While you
are doing this, any students who didn’t print should fix this problem in the
library. Also, students should fill out the GREEN senior plans worksheet and
return it to the desk, along with the book survey for the library.
(20 min) For the FIRST
peer edit, have them pass their paper back one seat, with the last paper in
the row handed to the front. Then have a student pass out the CRAAP test handout. Each editor will read the entire paper, but
focus on how well the sources are used as support, how credible the sources
appear to be from the writer’s introduction and how relevant/current they
appear, based on the writer’s commentary. The goal is a very thorough read,
with a lot of commentary, for every student’s paper.
(3-5 min) Have students return the papers and discuss any
questions or concerns they had with the peer editors. Keep this short (warn
them when there is one min left).
(20-30 min) For the SECOND peer edit, have them pas their
paper FORWARD one seat, with the first paper in the row handed to the very
back. Have a student pass out the 10 QUESTIONS for arguments. Each student
should use this as a guide for their commentary on the paper. Is the paper
fully argumentative, balanced, thorough/deep rather than broad in focus, etc.
(3-5 min) Have students return the papers and discuss any
questions or concerns they had with the peer editors.
(Time remaining) Students should then work on revising their
paper, based on the comments (on paper or on the Chromebooks). Please remind
students that they must have this draft uploaded to Turnitin.com before 3pm
today.
HW: I expect a NEW, revised, clean PRINTED draft
for Friday’s editing session, which will focus on grammar and source citations.
