(30 min) Pull out the Structure of Argument books and take notes in your journals, individually, on pages 203-205 (logical evidence) and the WHOLE section on logical fallacies, starting on page 308. Do NOT copy down all the different fallacies listed, but you need the general definition and general categories. Skim all the examples.
(30 min) Get in groups of 4. Read the article "Cruel and Unusual" together, and, in your individual journals, identify the author's use of logos, pathos, and ethos. Then go back through the essay and try to identify logical fallacies, using the textbook as a resource to help you identify the fallacies. In the last 5 min, each group of 4 should join one other to make groups of 8, to compare answers.
(30 min) Return to your individual seats. Read two or three summaries from those around you, for confirmation you are on the right track, then the rest of the period should be spent SILENTLY working on your own analysis and response essay in your journals. The essay ("The Earth is Full"), the rubric, and the directions are all on the blog, which you can access on your phones or laptops. It is due, printed, Monday, Nov. 26. I will open up turnitin.com today for you to submit it online.
